The Old Governor's Mansion was the home to eight of Georgia's governors from 1839 to 1868. Since 1889, the Mansion has been part of Georgia College & State University. The Old Governor's Mansion was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1973. Tours of the Mansion focus on the history of the building and its occupants. Visit site
Lockerly Arboretum is a private, nonprofit educational support facility designed to enhance the cultural and aesthetic life of this area. Comprising approximately fifty acres, it is located just above the fall line in Milledgeville. Circa 1930, this is one of four historic buildings which make up the Milledgeville-Baldwin County Allied Arts Center. It houses the Allied Arts offices and the Elizabeth Marlor Bethune Art Gallery. Visitors are given guided tours of current exhibitions. The Allen's Market Building, across from the John Marlor Art Center, is a 1911 building that has been adapted into theatre, meeting and studio space. On display is the exhibition "Structures and Sites" featuring Milledgeville architecture.
On display are manuscripts and O'Connor's personal collection of over 700 books and journals. The room is furnished in the style of the 1870's and includes items from Andalusia, the farm where O'Connor lived and wrote the major portion of her fiction. Open Tuesday thru Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm.
